Lucas is very proud to present a new addition to the FURniture range, with the support of Saga Furs for providing him with the knowledge and the furs.

The bench is upholstered with as little as four foxes. Thanks to the innovative technique, to cut the furs into stripes, and then sewing them on leather, a much larger surface and a smooth colour gradient is created.

All furs used in this design carry the origin-assured label.

Lucas van Vugt approaches our relationship with nature and recycling generally
in a particular way. Old fur coats, purchased on different auction sites, reborn as furniture upholstery in his creations, resulting in pieces that are always unique in both their sizes and their story. His items are therefore everyday household objects and artworks at the same time – provocative items that criticize
our feelings about social responsability, while giving new life to an unwanted object. (A fellow chair from this collection: Fur-seal Bench is on show now
at the Nature Studies exhibition in Debrecen.)

It’s all about technique

Creativity is a must, but you need knowledge about Saga Furs techniques before you can create. This can mean familiarity with dressing techniques so you to understand the scope of materials available; or, it can mean know-how in actually working with fur techniques.

During a five day masterclass, Lucas and his colleagues from Furlab ; Django Steenbakker, Edwin Oudshoorn and Janneke Lemmers, learned about techniques invented or developed at Saga Furs Design Centre and further innovate techniques in order to further expand the knowledge of fur and bring it home to Furlab in Amsterdam.

The research project Flevoland als Kunstwerk (Flevoland as an Artwork) enables Museum De Paviljoens to investigate the identity of Flevoland and the influence that landscape and land art projects have on this identity.

During an 'artist in residency' Lucas created the project 'Roadkill'.
A kind of monument for animals hit by a car. The skeletons were powdered and with the powder a figurine was molded that resembles the original animal.

The Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen will present the exhibition Industrious|Artefacts, the evolution of crafts. The exhibition contains presentations in the indoor Musum and the outdoor Museum and will show the evolution of crafts before and after the closing of the Zuiderzee (1932) in relation to current developments in international and Dutch design and small-scale production. The well known Dutch designer Jurgen Bey and architect Rianne Makkink are the curators of this exhibition.

Lucas van Vugt will show a collection of animal figurines made from powdered animal bones. Lucas sourced roadkill in de Noordoostpolder and instead of letting the carcasses go to waste he decided to use the bones as a material to recreate an image of the animal the way it once was.
